Linocut prints by Angie Lewin

As a lino print artist I have been creating limited edition linocut prints for over forty years.

Linocutting is a type of relief printmaking. I begin by drawing onto the lino in black Indian ink, then gouge away the non-printing areas with a variety of tools. Ink is rolled onto the raised surface of the linoleum, and Japanese paper is laid over it. I'll then either hand burnish with a wooden spoon or use my Albion printing press to take an impression.

For each colour in a lino print, I cut a separate block and print one colour at a time, gradually building up the finished image. I print with oil-based inks in transparent colours.
